Symantec's existing firewall, which it acquired from AtGuard in 1999, is not considered "best of breed." Symantec could benefit from Sygate's experienced firewall engineers and from the addition of connection-specific firewall policy features from Sygate's firewall products, Pescatore said.

However, disentangling Symantec's current firewall from the anti-virus and anti-spyware features that it has been bundled with will be a challenge, he said.

While I like ZA pro which I'm running on another installation, I really love Sygate and it just makes me mad that Symantec in effect put them out business, this is atguard all over again.

I don't know what other FW I'm going to eventually, I can keep running sygate for the foreseeable future.

I downloaded the newest Sygate free version to a folder along with the .pdf help file. I haven't seen all that many updates to Sygate really. I will continue to install it on other PCs that I put together. ZA and I haven't seen eye to eye in some time.

The difference between 5.5 2710 which I'm using and the latest - 5.6, is that 5.6 is recognized by XP's security Center.

Another source for downloads of 5.x versions: http://207.33.111.31/spf/ I don't know how long the official web page will remain up.
