I recently installed Sygate and find it more to my liking than Zone Alarm. Almost daily it alerts me that Windows Explorer is attempting to contact the Internet. I have always declined to permit this as I don't see any reason why it should. Is this indicative of anything suspicious? I like things the way they are: no trojans, no other viruses, and no Spyware per Ad-aware and Spybot checks. Is there any reason Windows Explorer "needs" to contact the Internet?

    Thanks.

    Hi

Are you actually using Windows explorer when Sygate prompts you to allow or deny access? I have read this can be a problem with Windows 9x OS - are you running this?
If so there was a 'fix' posted in the Sygate forum
HTH as it seemed to help other users who had this problem also and WE did not look for access after that.

OS is XP Home and I use a dial-up connection. I run Mozilla Firefox and generally connect to the server before starting Firefox. Just a personal preference since I sometimes had trouble connecting when starting from Firefox. Coincidentally, I did not have the Sygate question about Windows Explorer just now when I booted up and came online.

I am not familiar with Firefox (sorry) but hopefully Sygate will have heeded your deny access and not ask you again. If you check the application list you will see WE listed there - it should either say block or ask. I would make sure I went to the advanced part and just leave a tick in the client - remove all others although we really do not want this having access at all.

Check the application list to see if Sygate is blocking this for you now and in the future.

Thanks, miniB. No longer seeing it, so it must be blocked. Will go take a look as you suggest.
