I want to replace my existing SoundBlaster Live soundcard in my WinXP Pro system with a Turtle Beach Santa Cruz card.

What would be the best procedure to follow to insure that all remnants of the Creative Soundblaster card are gone from my system?

    Thanks.

    Hi Bert,

Suggest you first remove the software via Add/Remove programs and reboot.

Then clean up the Registry -

Run RegCleaner , Look in the first 2 colums for anything relating to Soundblaster and remove them. Then run Tools > Registry Cleanup > Do them all. Delete all it finds

Run EasyClean 1.7 . Run only Uneccessary Files and Registry Clean and delete all it finds. In the skip box in Unnecessary Files type 'HELP'. There is a bug which may disable help and support - this Registry Fix solves that problem.

Run RegScrubXP . Run Regscrub finds problems and fix all it finds.

And for good measure run Regseeker http://www.hoverdesk.net/freeware.htm

This sequence should clear any trace of Soundblaster - and thoroughly clean the Registry at the same time.

Agree with PeteC re using the registry cleaners, 'cept I recommend EasyClean 2.0 Beta 1 over the aging 1.7f as it doesn't corrupt the XP help files and is Office XP (2002) compliant as well. Available from the Beta page on the same site.

Interesting, RegSeeker foung around 250 EXTRA entries after Regcleaner (jv16PowerTools 1.3), RegScrub and EasyCleaner. Most of them were the ones that jv16Power Tools 1.3 marked in red as Caution or not safe to delete.
System and all apps still stable though after living dangerously:eek:

FYI - I've tried EasyClean 2.0 Beta 1 a couple of times - it hangs on me! Back with 1.7
