How do I do that? I tried going to windows explorer and found favorites, then tried to send it to my floppy but it wouldn't happen as a file. I am however, able to highlight one favorite at a time and then send it to the floppy...

How can I send the whole favorite file at once?

The other questions is that I have two sets of favorites. The one reached by clicking start...it is above the start menu....after *run*
*find*help*settting*documents*then *favorites*. This is the same one seen in IE.

The other favorites is found with windows explorer and listed under C:/windows/favorites, but that is a different list of favorites!

Where do I find with windows explorer the favorites list that are above the start button?

    Hi devildog!

In Internet Explorer got to ARCHIVE > IMPORT AND EXPORT

From there You can export a file which You can import to the other system.

    tried that, but didn't work..

Using windows explorer, I managed to copy the favorites from my old computer to my floppy. I put that in the new computer, then went to windows explorer and left clicked (held) the favorites file from the floppy and dragged and accidently let go at desktop/my documents. Now that is where the favorites are from my old computer. I was going to use windows explorer to move them from there to C:/windows/favorites...but cant find favorites there! Im confused as hell...

and to make matters worse, going to IE I have the standard default favorites there!

The Import/Export should work but if not, try opening Windows Explorer (not Internet Explorer) and expand things in the left-hand pane until you can see the Favorites folder you want to transfer in the right-hand pane. Be sure there's a floppy in the floppy drive.

Then RIGHT click on the Favorites folder and, keeping the right mouse button depressed, drag that folder over onto the floppy drive on the left. When you're in the right place, the A drive will highlight itself. Let go of the right mouse button and choose "Copy here." Choose "Copy" and not "Move" in case there's a foul-up...you'll still have the originals.

I recommend using the right mouse button for this operation over the left because the items in the left-hand column have a way of bouncing around at exactly the moment you let go of the mouse button. Using the right-click drag-and-drop, if that happens you can cancel and try again.

I´m not sure about this but I seem to remember the Favorites folder being a subfolder to the Windows folder c:\windows\favorites.
This prompts the question if the receiving computer too runs Win98?

Be cautious to keep the "desktop.ini" file, otherwise the system will get confused.

If You copied this file from the other system, don´t copy it, keep the original one!

    now I am REALLY confused!

OK..OK....didn't realize this was important...old system was Win98SE. New one is WinXP...

I transfered my favorites to a floppy. They were under C:/windows

I put the floppy in the new computer and somehow managed to install them under desktop/my documents. Then I deleted them.

Now I still have a floppy with my old favorites.

Using windows explorer, I cant now find favorites anywhere on the new computer in order to move them there from the floppy.

I tried the import/export feature. went to import...browsed and found the floppy...by default it named the floppy file A:\bookmark.htm...hit next...but then said it couldnt find it!

    Now what?

In WinXP (Pro at least) the Favorites folder is in:

    c:\documents and settings\ "Your User Name "\favorites

Be sure to not copy the Favorites folder itself to the new computer but only the contents, except the "desktop.ini" file.

    Transfer of Favorites

Devildog: Using Win Explorer, go into your Favorites folder & make a new folder, Old Favs or something. Now put the floppy in the drive with your favs to transfer. Open the floppy, highlight 1st file, now hold down shift key & highlight the last file. Right click on them & select Copy. Now, go to your new folder in favorites called Old Favs right click & Paste. The files should transfer OK. If there's no files in the Favs folder at the start of this transfer, then just go into Favs folder & Paste the html files, don't bother with the new folder first! Hth, enjoy, George. :)

    It Worked!

    Thanks so much guys!....

Now how do I keep all the old favorites files under favorites without having them in a folder named "old favs ". In other words, without having the folder with those old favs either open or closed, just have all the old links listed under favorites?

    Thanks again...

The favorites folder in XP is in the location given by Christer, and had you put them there, they would now be in you favorites menu in IE. Move them.
