svchost.exe error after few minutes on-line

As I am online I always get a Message svchost.exe error and then I am locked out of any links. It occurs after being online about 2-3 minutes. How do I stop this error ocurring

Svchost is a collection of XP services that run in the background. One of those services is XP 'phoning home ". This may be corrupted and causing this problem.

When did this start happening? Another possibility is if this is fairly recent, it may be a new affect of the current blaster worm infection.

Have you run an AV scan lately?

In the meantime I looked up what svchost.exe does specifically.

It handles DNS - Domain Name System - using servers to translate host names (http://.....) into numeric IP addresses.

To see if this service is running: start > run > type services.msc and scroll down to DNS Client. The staus should be started and the startup should be automatic.

Did you run an AV scan? Or try these:

If you do not have a firewall installed, at least enable XP's - ICF.

Start > run > type services.msc > scroll down to "internet connection firewall" and double click. In the panel: in the startup type drop down menu, click on "automatic ".
