Hi. Folks, Iam alerted to a file in Windows task master. It is BWGO 000112507.exe There is a suggestion that it could be a virus. The number in the centre of the file name can change from day to day. I use Windows XP Home edition. I would appreciate any help. Regards, William.

    William,

Glad to hear that you got a clean bill of health. I just wanted to throw a couple things at you that I found on Google. Nothing bad, just info on the file.

Backweb creates temporary files named bwgo*.exe to your temporary
    folder.

Backweb is currently being distributed as a standalone program for
    receiving notifications from various sources.

Backweb is also used by F-Secure Antivirus which uses backweb to get
it's database updates from f-secure. If you have F-Secure Anti-virus
5.x installed, this is most likely the case.

    PestPatrol info on BackWeb

I think if it is backweb the name and or number would not change.
Do you gave a HP or compac PC, KODAK Software, F-secure
    or Logitech ?

You might consider posting a hijackthis log, Its very important to not be fixing things without assistance.

Hi. Minnesota Mike & Lonny Jones, The PC is Packard Bell. Attached are HP printer and scanner, and Logitech camera. Backweb appears in the startup menu. As regards Hijackthis Log I would be cautious about using that. Many thanks for your interest. Regards, William.

There is no harm in running a Hijack This log. No one said to fix anything, just post it for the experienced people to look over. BackWeb prob came with your HP stuff- I haven't found any HP hardware that didn't have BackWeb in its software, yet. If you want it gone, use Spybot. If you want to control what loads at start up (for example, BackWeb) use Mike Lin's StartUpCPL It's a free program that adds an extra tab to your Control Panel that allows you to decide what comes on when you boot the computer.

Many thanks Johanna. The Mike Lin program is excellent. I may try Hijackthis Log later. Regards, William.
