Hi my son got a usb mp3 player that plugs directly into the usb and it wouldn't show any drive so I put in the disc that it came with and it installed some sort of drivers and started working but ever since that my external hdd has lost the plot its now not accessible and comes up as a Sunplus USB2SATA bridge USB Device and before that it was listed as a drive. Now when you click on it it says there is no media in th drive could it be some sort of usb corruption with the drivers?

Connect the external HD to a USB port at the back of your PC, not the front.

Try it in another PC, but it sounds like the drive has died.

Arie, I have an WD 160 GIG external that will not show up on my #1 PC the computer just will not recognize it in Explorer nor in Disk Management, yet it works just fine in any other PC.
I am not sure about this, whether it will work or not, but I am going to give it a different drive Letter, I am thinking that some other device has taken the drive letter on that PC.
coolwaters is saying that this occurred after inserting a USB MP3.
    Worth a try?????

Yea, that's why I suggested to try it in another PC.

If it would work there I'd consider removing the USB root hub & reinstalling USB support on the affected PC.

Well that's a relief :) Simple job to get another enclosure, but get a decent one!
