    Hi!
I'm thinking about upgrading my old computer to Windows 2000 as crashes get infuriating after a while  . What would be a good system to run windows 2000? (I know microsoft is joking as their system requirements can have XP on 300MHZ and 64MB RAM  ).

    So it has a 485MHz K6-2
(I am considering upgrading to a K6-3 if it's less than $30 on Ebay)
    and 192MB (64+128) of RAM (Max RAM on Mobo = 256 MB :( )
is this good enough to run windows 2000 smoothly?

And yes I have the other system requirement ;) of havng a 700K+ internet connection for downloading all those service packs + patches.

    -Dave

i dont think thats going to be horrible. Your boot up time is going to be pretty long, but once the box is up, it shouldnt be bad at all. Up until about 3 months ago, my wife's machine was a pII400 with 256M o ram, and that machine took about 5 minutes to boot, but once it was up, ran Office2003 and surfed the web as quick as anything else.

    The more ram, the better.

    I had a customer who was running W2k on a 300 Celeron & 64mb.

Talk about a dog on boot - the real boot time killer was the Norton A/V.

But once up - it worked.

edit: that K6 will work - just don't expect to play any video files, they would seem more like slide shows if you get my meaning.
