Hoping someon can suggest an 8 port wireless router.
I have a number of devices that I'd rather hardwire then use wireless.
I'd like to stick with Cisco because I'm familiar with them, but otherwise willing to change.
I'd like something with a good wireless signal that will reach further then what I have now.
    I currently have a 4 port WRT54GS Cisco router.

    any suggestions?

    thank you!

I've used several Linksys BEFSR81 wired routers over the years. They last on average about 3 years. Now I just use a 4 port wifi router and an 8 port separate switch. Switches seem to last longer.

simply plug a switch into one of the 4 lan ports

    simple
attach a switch to one of the four lan ports
or you can use a router with dhcp turned off
    but it can get frustrating
wireless routers are normally set to handle a large amount of wireless clients
( 250 i think by default but i may be wrong)
the point is the router can handle extra wired clients no trouble
With the switch plugged into a lan port
the router will simply assign these as new ports to plug into
However you will have 3 ports on the router and 4 on the switch = 7
so if need the extra ports either get 2 switches or a 8 port switch
    linksys makes these
no need to buy some ultra exotic wireless router at high cost

Buy an 8 or 12 port switch. Connect ALL the PCs to the switch, and use one of the ports on the switch to connect to the router.

The fastest part of the network is the switch backplane. So the more PCs you can connect directly to the switch, the better. Use one router port to connect to the switch and only use the other router ports when you run out of ports on the switch.
