hello, i have an HP laptop with windows vista HP on it, it has 140 giga hard drive wiht about 78 gigas available.

i was using it last night and shut it down as usual, this morning when i tried to start it i got a black screen and a loud beeping [one long followed by two short beeps], since i couldnt shut it down i had to disconect the battery, after that i tried starting it again, all i got was a message saying that windows had an error and to select an option: start normally or the start up recovery and to press enter, when i selected start up recovery and pressed entered nothing happened, the arrows moved around but nothing else happened. I restarted using the recovery cd's and only got to the progress bar, after 15 minutes I restarted with the windows vista cd installation cd and it's been on that damned progress bar for 30 minutes. Help me please!!!!! I do not know what else to do.

I'd vote for video issues. Can you boot into Safe Mode?

hey guys, thank you very much for the help.

i can't get to safe mode, cant get to the logon screen, just stays there at the progress bar, at the start when i press f1 to enter the configuration screen i get the option of start up recovery or start normally but when i try to press enter nothing happens, after a bit another screens comes up saying that the device to select is unavailable (even though the arrow keys do seem to work and the led lights up when i press cap lock). I may very well choose to take it to someone to take a look at it tomorrow, because I've run out of things to do to the damned thing. tried the recovery cd, the installation dvd, talking to it, screaming at it and threating with not loving it anymore and nothing...... sorry for that failed attempt to humour, but it's the only thing i have left.
