Running vista home premium on a Dell Vostro 1400. The computer has been stuck on the logging off screen for over an hour now. The little circle icon is still spinning so it looks like it is doing something but it wont finish.

Shut it down hard by holding down on/off button and then pulling out battery for 10 minutes. When restarted it resumed windows and went back to the logging off screen.

    Please help.

Interesting...Think I'd leave the battery out...Plug it into ac power and give it some more time.

    fixed

i pulled the battery out while it was hung (did not even try the on/off button). It shut down hard and let me boot again. I restarted in safe mode and used the system restore utility to use the settings from yesterday. It works fine now.

My guess is there was a windows update last night. I had my system set to hibernate when shutting down and I do not think it liked that after the update was installed and tryed to reboot.

Not sure if this helps anyone else...but thanks.
