stuck at a start-up screen

Hey everyone, on my sister's computer, she'll turn it on and then it will get stuck at the screen where it has the clouds in the background and it says "Windows 98" in big writing. Anyone know how to fix this? Its not a matter of waiting it out because its been left on for about a week. I know older computers are slow but I don't think they're this slow. Any help is appreciated

 

Quite often, just booting into Safe Mode and then re-booting into normal mode will fix a "hangs at the Windows screen" problem.

To boot into Safe Mode, repeatedly press the F8 key during boot (don't hold it down 'cause you'll just get a keyboard error message). That should get you to the boot menu where you use the arrow keys to select Safe Mode, then press Enter.

Then just reboot as usual into normal mode.

When you get to the screen where you can choose Safe Mode, instead choose the Logged Option. When it is booting, it will create a log, including where it is hanging up. When it hangs, reboot, and go into Safe Mode, browse to C:\ and look for Bootlog.Txt, it will be a hidden file. Post the lines with Fail in it.
