I've just switched from Acer 19" to and Acer 22" Wide Screen Monitor. Most of my programs fill the screen but when I boot up my desktop come up in the 19" format. To cure this I have to go to Control/Display/Desktop/Position and change it from Center to Stretch...... In order to get my "backgrounds" to fill my screen I have to change the position to "Stretch" every single time.

Is there a way to set this to make "Stretch" my defaukt setting as it switches back to "Centre" each time I boot up ? - very annoying.
    (Using XP)

    Assitance and tips appreceated.

    Hi reknaw.

You really don't want to stretch your display - everything shown will be distorted. What you want is to get your video adapter to output the right aspect ratio and resolution to fit your new screen properly.

What make & model is your PC ?
What make and model of graphics adapter are you using ?

The make (manufacturer) would be like Dell, HP-Compaq, Gateway, home-built-desktop, Toshiba, etc. The model number for retail prebuilt units is like D610, GM5420, Satellite S5100, etc.

The make is almost always on the front of desktops and on the lid of laptops.

Desktops often have a small sticker on the back with the full model number on it as well as having it printed or embossed on the front plastic panel.

Laptops usually have the model number printed on the deck above the keyboard.

I don't want to push, but, did you installed 22" monitor driver, which came with your monitor?

To be honest I don't think I did - I just plugged it in and all seemed OK - except the above. Not sure I know how to "install" drivers - do you think I should try it ?

You can install the monitor driver, but this will not cure the stretching problem. The monitor driver informs the graphics driver what resolutions the monitor can handle. Generally, external LCD monitors can accept any resolution output by a graphics adapter. They have an "auto-adjust" feature which stretches the output to exactly fit the visible screen.

If the graphics card output has the correct aspect ratio to match the display's aspect ratio then the displayed graphics will have a "1:1" (one-to-one) fit and displayed things like perfect circles will not appear squished or stretched.

Is your background Windows one, or third party?
