    Greetings.

I dont know anything about XP, I'm a 98SE person, but a friend of mine has XP.

She said a few months ago she thinks she got a virus, she cant recall name of it. But now, XP will turn one, run for maybe 5 minutes, then she gets a message saying "your system will shut down in 60 seconds "

She has Norton, but has not updated it in past few months. No rescue disk was given her where she bought the comp from. When she did run norton, it didnt find anything.

I know this is all pretty sketchy info, Im waiting for more to come but im hoping someone has an idea. Im not sure how you would boot to safe mode in XP or if u can or if it would help.

    THanks in advance.

    Hello Basstracker,

    Its the Blaster worm:
    http://www.symantec.com/avcenter/tools.list.html

How to stay on line long enough: article here http://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,4149,1217741,00.asp

    Excerpt from the article:

    quote
On most machines Blaster triggers a Windows shut down sequence with a 60-second warning, leaving no time for downloading. Your first step is to abort the shutdown by entering the command "shutdown /a" (no quotes) in the Start menu's Run dialog
    end quote

    Regards - Charles

I just sent this info to my friend. Hopefully she can handle doing this.

    Thanks again.
