I'm running XP Pro (all patches have been applied) and I am getting a window popping up titled "Server Busy ". The content says:

This action cannot be completed because the other
program is busy. Choose "Switch To" to activate the busy
    program and correct the problem.

What action is it talking about? This window has 3 buttons: "Switch To," "Retry" and "Cancel ". "Cancel" is grayed out, "Retry" does nothing and "Switch To" brings up the start menu. The window cannot be closed, clicking the "X" simply bongs at me.

This doesn't seem to create a problem with anything else unless I carelessly bring it on top of another window. As long as it is the bottom window, I can continue to work. However, as soon as it comes on top of a window, it will not allow me to bring that window back to the top. I don't have a clue what is going on here but I can only get rid of it (for a while) by rebooting.

Can someone help me out with this? TIA.

    1. Virus scan from an on-line site. Housecall is good as are some others.

    2. Download Ad-aware 6.0, run the update, and then the scan. Remove any items it finds.

    3. Download Spybot, run the update, and then the scan. Remove all items that have a red box with a check mark.

If the behavior continues after that, you'll need to get more detail about exactly what is running that window.

Thaks for the reply. I already have all those (Norton AV, Ad-Ware, Spybot) so ti is not a virus.

As to your last comment, I guess I was hpoing someone would tell me how to do that. I don't have a clue how to tell what application is assoicate with that window.

Two things to try that should offer more information. After that, it will be lots easier to figure out the problem and the fix.

    1. start~run~eventvwr.exe and look in your event logs for errors or warnings that look related (or maybe related, or just plain confusing).

    2. Ctrl-Alt-Del and then click on task manager. Set it to always on top. Then click on the processes tab and once there, click on the CPU col. title twice. That should arrange things so the process using the most CPU time is shows at the top. System Idle is fine but keep an eye on it when things get too busy and see what else is up there.
