Hello All! It's me again. I have a friend who is running IE 6.0 on XP and when she opens IE to go to a page (www.msn.com) you will see the progress in the lower left hand side .. "Loading page www.msn.com "..then the page will begin to display, then the page will stop loading, as if being redirected, and the progress will show an address of "www.www. msn.com.org" as if IE has been told to add these extra characters? Has anyone seen anything like this.
BTW..I did run AD Ware and it found some items corrected those, then I uninstalled IE then, reinstalled of a CD a nice clean version of IE and am getting the samething.

Thanks in advance for any help that I get :D

It may not be on your end at all. Look at this link, it turns out it was RoadRunner's servers. This did happen just over 2 1/2 weeks ago.

Thank you sir, for your prompt reply. That does indeed sound like the problem that she's having but, the browser is doing it off and on while browsing the web as well. I will keep checking back with her and see if the situation is still recurring

    Thanks again!:)

Same off and on problem here. However I have not gotten any redirects.

I will not say that Road Runner did not have any problems. But I use w w w.msn.com as a home page and some days recently it is the ONLY place I can get.

But at certain times of the day I was getting nowhere for about 15 minutes at a time. When this happened I checked with another machine. And if it does the same thing then I know is it not IE or my machine.

The other machines are 98SE and doing the same thing so I can really say it was not XP or SE or IE.

I also do not use AOL, Hotmail. Or even Outlook Express

I know that RR is making changes so maybe they just got a Red wire hooked to a Blue treminal.

But for the last two days things are doing quite well.

I do not see anything referring to a Virus check ? A scan with onboard AV and an Online AV might be in order. Sure will not hurt.

Are all AV programs updated and active full time. ? And set to check e-mail ?

Are windows updates up to date ?

If using XP is a software Firewall also installed and active full time ? XPs Firewall is only one way ( incoming ).

Whether they having anything to do with the original problem here but they are VERY important with XP and a Cable Internet.

As for the RR scenario, though similar, may not be the problem, as she uses Dial up. I will check the AV and check for any updates to see if this will correct the problem. There is a very good chance that it will be the problem.

Thank you sir, for you reply, any anyone else who may reply, it's greatly appreciated. This board is fan-freakin-tastic!

    Hi Viiofvii,
Sometimes Spyware can cause weird problems.
See my post on Internet Explorer "Microsoft IE 6 Problem" dated 9/19/03.

I was almost ready to re install Windows XP when I stumbled on this fix.

Thanks jslow! I will read the post and see what I can find. I've been trying to get a hold of her, but she's never home. After trying all of this, I bet she will never use it again. LOL

But thanks though for the reply!:)
