Firstly I hope i explain this correctly.

I have a membership at a graphics site which has frequent updates. I have never had a problem with this site until after 12-31. She had listed an update on that day which i could see but I have been in and out of that site at least a dozen times since then and the updates is not listed anymore. If I bypass the update listing and just go to where the graphic should be it is not there either. I have had a few friends that also belong check it out and they can all see this update/listing as can the site owner.

Also she has another site http://graphicsandgraphics.com. While we were emailing back and forth last night about the problem with the other site she told me she had updated this public site also. I went I say the update and now it is no longer there for me either but is for everybody else.

I failed to mention about the first site that all updates prior to the 12-31 listing still show up for me. What in the world could be causing this?

I have ran norton virus which found nothing;I ran registry doctor and that is fine. I had been trying out the Firefox browser and we thought that may have been it and after I uninstalled it I could see the updates but then a couple of hours later I could not. I tried updating Internet Explorer to 7 thinking that would maybe correct whatever the problem was but that doesn't help either. I have also done a system restore back as far as it would let me (which was only to 12-30). Oh, and I am using WindowsXp.

I am just lost and so is the site owner. I don't know what to try now.
    Any ideas?

    Thanks
    Karen Burton

    Hello Karen,

The first thing that strikes me is the date year change - but that might be coincidence. If the date is the problem, can't think of any OS/browser setting that would affect web sites in that manner.

To test that, one of the things I would try is setting the system date back to 12/31 and see what happens.

Were you a member prior to 01/06?

It would also be a good idea for you to create a manual system restore point - only having one back to 12/30 is not enough if that is the only "restore" you rely on.

    Regards - Charles

Yes. I have been a member for about 6 months. It is the strangest thing because the only update to her site that is doing that is the 12-31. I can see all previous updates. Everybody that I talk to can see the update that I cannot. Also on her other website as I stated she just did an update last night and when i went to see it the 1st time it was there but when i went back to it later it was not and everybody but me could see it also.

As far as the manual restore points I always do them before I add, change or remove anything but 12-30 is as far back as it will let me go for some reason. I have tried to go back to that restore point and some I have made in the last few days and it will not let me restore. I tried to go back to before I upgraded to IE7 because I don't like it and I can't even do that.

This is getting very frustrating to say the least.

    Karen

    Hi karen,

Unlike IE6, IE7 can be uninstalled via Add/Remove.

To see what's running on the system:

    Download and run HijackThis:

Download from here http://radiosplace.com/ latest version 1.99.1

Download it to it's own folder, for example create a folder C:\HijackThis

unzip (double click on zipped folder)

    click on the execute

click on Do a system scan and save a logfile and save to the folder you just created

copy resultant .txt file and paste into your next post

The scan log will tell us what's running - it might malware that is doing this.

Others will have a look at the log as well and if need be I, or another mod, will move your thread to the Virus/malware removal forum.

    Regards - Charles

See now this is crazy. Before I posted the HiJack This log I did a partial system recovery and when I went to bed I could see the updates and graphics on both her sites. Now here it is morning and I go into her sites and I can't see them again. It's crazy. It's like once I turn off the computer and turn it back on they disappear.

    Hi Karen,

Looking at your HJT scan, I don't see anything malicious - just some processes that don't need to be running at startup. Some examples:
ARPWRMSG.EXE or DiscUpdateMgr.exe These programs are not required to start automatically as you can run it when you need to.

If you want to persue that, lookup what's running - in this post there are links to process data bases.

    http://www.windowsbbs.com/showthread.php?t=39425

    Lets eliminate a suspect:

Zone Alarm - disconnect from the net and bring up ZA > right click on ZA's tray icon > disable.

Next, via Control Panel > Security Center > scroll down to Windows Firewall and click. In the WF dialog window > tick ON.

    Regards - Charles

    Thank you Charles...

I always see all these processes that are in my msconfig startup folder but most don't say what they are for so I am not sure what I need in there and what I don't. Apparently I don't know as much about my computer as I thought. lol

    Hi Karen,

In that post I linked to http://www.windowsbbs.com/showthread.php?t=39425 use the Task List site.

If you end up needing something, you can re enable.

    Hi Karen,

I notice you run Symantec, see if your NAV settings are interfering with SR as in this thread:

I just got an email from the lady that owns the 2 sites and she wanted me to go to a page and take a screen shot of it. According to her I am seeing an old page and not the new page. She says somehow my computer is taking me back in time. Is this possible??

She also said that someone else was having this same problem so wouldn't this be a problem on her end? This is only happening to me on her 2 sites.

I am so confused. Why wouldn't my computer go to her newest page and instead go back to her older page.

It's weeks like this that make me hate computers!

    Karen
