periodically I get 2 or sometimes more horizontal lines that appear on the left hand side of the monitor when I am on the computer. It's not when I'm doing anything specific. Mostly see it when I browse the web. Never have seen it just idle on my desktop. How do I determine if this is a monitor problem or video card problem. It doesn't do anything to my system, I guess it's more annoying than anything. If I scroll up or down the lines go away.I have tried to get the most recent drivers for both, it always states I have the most recent, what else could cause this? Thanks.

How about some spec's? Make and model of monitor and video card. On my monitor there are two lines that run across the screen and Dell says thats the way it was designed and there is nothing i can do about it.

Sorry for the delay....just got back in town.
    Make of Monitor: Relisys
Make of Video card:Janton VIDEO-81AGP/PRO Trio3D/2X..I want to upgrade my video card but I don't know which one to get. I'm thinking if I do that the lines will go away..I hope.
I have a 400 megahertz Intel Pentium II with
10.19 Gigabytes Usable Hard Drive Capacity
8.70 Gigabytes Hard Drive Free Space....

silentassassin - check the connections to/from the monitor. If all seems well, try hooking up another monitor and see whether the problem persists (I suspect that it won't).

silentassassin - I don't know much about this subject but to get to refresh rate, right click a blank spot on your desktop>Properties>Settings>Advanced>My refresh rate choices are on the Adapter tab. Others will add if you need more.

Refresh rate? Maybe. But I think it's more probable that your monitor is knackered :(

By changing the moniter and the problem leaving I also would say the Moniter needs to be replaced.

    Thanks Brett... :)

We have quite a few Dell and Viewsonic monitors here at work and they all have the horizontal lines so that got me interested in what they were and why they were there.

thanks for the link...though very informative..my lines don't look like that. Imagine this box is my monitor, the lines below are what my lines look like ( minus the spaces in between) just straight lines, I only have 2, they are always the same width, but sometimes a little longer, and always on the left hand side of the screen when I scroll up or down to move my page or whatever I'm reading it goes away..It's weird. But I did learn something from the how it works site..got a better understanding on how monitors work.
