I seem to have 3 strange problems, which may be related. Vista home premium)

    1. My favorites seem to be coming from a file in my computer directory
    as follows:
    users->barry->documents->favorites->favorites

When I try to consolidate the favorites from the child directory to the parent favorite directory and rename the child, I no longer have any favorites present when I launch IE7.

    2. When I try to reorder the urls/folders in the dropdown box inside IE7, but dragging the thin line up, the new locations is accepted but when I next log IE I have the default alphabetic order.

    3. When I add a new favorite, it doesn't show up in the list.

I also note that when trying to put some of the 'missing' favorites a second time, I am told that the favorite already exists, do I want to overwrite? But it still does not show up on the list.

A suggestion rather than a proven solution - not come across this one before :) .....

The path to Favourites should stop at the first Favourites folder - the second should not be there.

In IE File > Export and export your Favourites to a location on your drive - file created will be called bookmark.htm.

    Close IE

Check that bookmark.htm includes all your favourites - file will open in your default html editor.

Delete the red bolded folder users->barry->documents->favorites->favorites

Open IE and import your favourites - bookmark.html.

Check to see if the previously deleted Favourites sub folder has been recreated - hopefully not :)

I think IE is confused by two Favourites folders.

The default location for the Favorites folder in IE7 on Vista is \Users\{username}\Favorites. Thus not in the \Documents folder as in your case.

    Thank you both for yourhelp.
I moved stuff around as PeteC suggested but still could not get it to work with import and export.

Finally I copied the contents of user->barry->documents->favorites into the (empty) user->barry->favorites folder and all seems to work now.

    Appreciate the help

I've renamed the other folders away from favorites <grin>

Glad to hear you have resolved the problem - no idea how the Favourites ended up in the wrong location - unless there was user input :) In XP I have my Favourites located on another drive which is backed up hourly.
