Confused .. Recently I downloaded an MP3 file from a URL (CRUD)..
    The download was a sucsess "Getamoveon.mp3 "
Saved to desktop. Later I send this file via NS 7 to an associate...He complained it had an extra extension added to it.....
    getamoveon.mp3.mpeg.
    This xtra extension caused him not to open it for fear of virus etc;
I repeated the process sending it to myself as a check...it also came to me with the added (MPEG) extension.
No appernt change in size comparing to original download. I tried other MP3 files from other scources within my 98SE system , none of which added xtra extensions....really confused:confused:

    Hi ROBINT,

    Take a look under:
EDIT | PREFS | NAVIGATOR | HELPER APPLICATIONS. If there is an .mpeg
    association listed there, remove it.

    ROBINT,

O.K. unless you have added a Helper Application, that's normal.

Check your "Help | About Plug-ins and see what it shows for mp3 and mpeg files. You may have more than one program handling these file types.

You might also check your Registered File Types:
    Open Windows Explorer
View | Folder Options | File Types
See what programs are handling the two file types there also.

    Hi ROBINT,

There seems to be quite a lot of that going around with Netscape 7. If it only happens on one site, then it's probably bad coding on the web site. It was a bug in Mozilla 1.0RC2 or 3, I believe, but supposedly fixed in 1.0 final. Guess not, huh?

    Bug 144334
    Bug exe-san
    Bug 175436
    Etc., etc., etc

I've experienced it myself a time or two, when downloading a .wmv file, it would be saved as file.wmv.txt, but simply renaming the file worked fine. Windows will balk, but go ahead and change it anyway.
