    I was wondering if anyone might
    know what has caused the change in the way my IBM 2168 (a very old computer) is booting up.
    Normally I see the boot up screen with the RAM count and the squiggles
    on the top right. Just recently, it started to boot up and stopped on
    that screen as if it was stuck. I turned it off and booted again and
    ever since I do not see the boot up screen. The first screen I see now
    is the Windows 98 logo. Do you think there is something wrong with the boot
    sector on the hard drive? How can I fix this problem?

    Its possible. But if it gets to Windows, and everything else is ok, then don't worry about it... Someone's else's quote here, "if it ain't broke, don't fix it ".

    Solution to problem

    Ready for this one!
    When my computer booted up and I did not see the regular boot screens when I can look at the BIOS, I thought something was wrong. So I ran Dr. Watson, which informed me that "ATMSYS.DRV has altered Windows System Files ". I did not know what this meant so I typed ATMSYS.DRV into Google and discovered that for some reason the Adobe Acrobat Font Manager had changed a line in my SYS.INI file under the Boot section to read
    ----------------------
    system.drv=atmsys.drv
    instead of
    system.drv=system.drv
    ------------------------
    Microsoft has written a couple of memos about this.
    Anyway when I changed the line, the bootup returned to normal. Somehow in fussing about with the Adobe Acrobat Reader, it modified the SYS.INI file. Amazing, Huh!
