Over the past week or so, I have had two blue screens of death occur while on the internet. I am running win98se with all critical updates and IE6 SP1 with all updates. The error has only occurred while at one site ( I think this may just be a coincidence)
but it happens as follows. My screen goes blank for a second and then the Blue screen comes up with the message:
Fatal Exception Error OE 0028: DA8DDC4A in VxD AFVXD (01)
+ 0000164A. This was called from 0028:C1839E64 in VxD PPPMAC (04) = 00007B14. You may be able to continue what .....

Anyway, when I press any key I am returned to IE still open and I am still connected to the internet. Essentially nothing is wrong. I haven't been able to find this exact error message but did read a similar one in the microsoft knowledgebase referring to this when using a cable modem. I am using a dial-up modem so this is not the case for me. I have the most current versions of Spybot, Ad-aware and all reference file updates. Nothing is showing there. I have scanned for viruses (use McAfee- but also did a free online scan at Trend Micro (housecall) - no viruses found.

There is only one thing that I have installed over the past week and I'm wondering if it could be causing the problem. I recently installed the google toolbar on IE6. If anyone knows if that may be causing the problem I'd like to hear some suggestions. I know it has caused some crashing errors in IE in the past but I don't see any reference to it causing Blue screen errors.
    Any suggestions would be appreciated.

    Thanks

Same here except i have to restart my pc most times, this blue screen has only happend a couple times,

I think its something to do with ms's last updates offerd in febuary
a pacth for sp1 and then now a pacth for the pacth---
    Quite confusing to me
seams people are (some) haveing problems with the Q8108447
for internet explorer, not being able to access some secure web sites or logon pages and other difficulty's--for some wierd reason this pacth didnt effect me but the next one did, I have win me so a system restore solved that problem.

Do you have a firewall installed ?
Sorry I cant help as yet--someone else will though----wait.
Pull up the resource metor and whatch <

No, I don't have a firewall installed. Like you, this has only happened to me a couple of times so I'm not overly concerned yet.
Unfortunately, because I'm using win98se I don't have system restore and I really don't want to go uninstalling and reinstalling things until it's absolutely necessary.
I thought it might have something to do with dial-up networking but I don't have any problem connecting to the internet.
I guess for now, I'll just have to wait until the next time it happens.

    Thanks for the reply!

    :)
