Hello! First post and an avid reader of BBS. Good to meet you all!

Last week I installed a PCI USB card in a Windows SBS server. The lovely said server is a Compaq Proliant ML350 [an ugly, old tower server].

After I installed the card, which was recognized by Windows, I then plugged in my USB device, a Maxtor One Touch External Hard Drive.

Immediately after plugging in the device a BSOD and a STOP ERROR occurred.

The Event Viewer has little to add except at the time of the stop error the "....error was unexpected. "

    Windows is windowsupdated fully.

I guess what I am trying to get out of this a reason to chuck this 75 pound behemoth. All jesting aside, I checked the BIOS and the usb controller looks to be sharing an IRQ, if that is at all possible. I tried to change the IRQ, I think 5, 7, and 11 are the only options. [My notes are a bit messy so forgive me if I made an obvious mistake.] I tried each one, with the same result. /cry

So, my questions are, USB on this machine a possibility? And, why is the maxtor one touch casuing the stop error? or is it the usb card?

Thanks in advance for your responses.

    C

In that case, do you also get a stop error if you plug a USB key in etc? or is it just the drive.
