Does not look like good news :(

    http://aumha.org/win5/kbestop.htm and scroll down to 0xC0000218: UNKNOWN_HARD_ERROR
Some MS KB articles are posted under that section too.

My interpretation of that error is that the drive is OK - it is a software problem.

Have you read through this article ....

How to recover from a corrupted registry that prevents Windows XP from starting from which
Your best bet is to hitch the drive up as slave in another computer and, if it is recognised you have a good chance of being able to copy your data off it.

I would then follow the instructions in the KB article and if that does not work try a repair install of Windows..

Right click on My Computer icon > Properties - the tabbed box which appears gives details of your Operating System. You will see from there if you have SP2 (screenshot)

You really do not need to move the drive to another computer. The link PeteC gave earlier is one of the new "Guided Help" knowledge base articles, and it does not assume a second computer: http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;Q307545

Another explanation of the same process: http://www.digitalwebcast.com/2002/03_mar/tutorials/cw_boot_toot.htm

If no joy from this, a repair reinstallation should sort matters as well, although you will need to spend some time at Windows Update when done: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/315341

I tried to follow the links that you guys have given me. I kept getting the stop error 0x0000007e. It will load all the program from the install cd and then it acts like to going to the wecome screen, but no just another blue screen stop error. I can not check what sevice pack that I have my computer is hating me right now. I am talking from brothers computer. If the install cd is not working. What do you suggest?

I turn on the computer and it gives me the option of safe mode I click on it and it go to multi disk partion 2 windows systems and it repeats with a number of different programs at the end. Then comes the blue screen with the stop error c000000218. None of the options it gives me will work.

The other thing I tried is I installed the reinstall cd and I tell me all the needed programs are loading it then tells me windows it starting up and then the other stop error 0x0000007e
    pci sys

I am stuck I do not know where to go from here. I can not get on the computer nothing works.

When I put the cd in and it loads the files it needs from the CD.It tell me that windows is loading and then it does not go to the install or recovery part it goes to a stop 7e error.. Is it a hard drive error or a operating system error?
Does it sound like I am going to have to purchase a new computer?
