    Hi,

I'm getting a message on two computers on our network. Both are Dell Precision 670 Workstations with fully patched XP Pro Service Pack 2 and a NVIDIA Quadro FX 540 graphics card. It happens on Sunday while running a network Norton Anti-Virus scan, but it doesn't happen if I do a manual scan.

    Hi,

Disable Norton AV auto update may resolve the blue screen problem.

    Thanks cpc2004.

We (IT Department) would, but because of the number of computers and the risks of viruses and trojans, we would rather have a blue screen. I think the file l3codecx.acm is causing us the problem because only those two computers have a codec pack that includes that file. I've tried uninstalling it, but it's buried too deep into the system and we don't want to fdisk and reinstall the operating system. We're hoping that Norton comes out with an update that will fix the problem.

Thanks Welshjim and LazyB. Sorry I didn't get back to you sooner; Thursdays and Fridays are my days off.

This is the information I receive when I followed the link:

    Details
    Product: Windows Operating System
    Event ID: 1003
    Source: System Error
    Version: 5.2
    Symbolic Name: ER_KRNLCRASH_LOG
    Message: Error code %1, parameter1 %2, parameter2 %3, parameter3 %4, parameter4 %5.

I also looked at the links and they didn't help.

Nero is not installed on the systems and I don't think there are virtual drive applications.

    Thanks!

Sorry to give you so many references, but it seems the possibilities are also many.
Also came across this on Experts-Exchange
"Error code 1000008e = "KERNEL_MODE_EXCEPTION_NOT_HANDLED_M" - Most of newsgroup comments about this error point to faulty hardware or drivers. The hardware varies from modems, video cards, USB device to memory or sound cards. Sometimes it proves to be hardware that it is not compatible with Windows XP. Q310740 gives an example of this error occuring when and old Audigy sound card driver is installed. "
