When autorun starts up and the CD is attempting to be read, I get the following error:

    Stop Code

    0x0000001e (0xC000000S,0xA00CBE33,0x0000000,0x000000021)

    KMODE_EXCEPTION_NOT_HANDLED

I have istalled SR1 through SP4 of Windows 2000 Professional and the security alert fixes.

Sorry. The bolded number group is impossible. The numbers are hexidecimal and consist of 0-9 and a-f.

Have you checked your event logs for more information?

    Hi Newt,

I'm sorry for the typing error. The code was:

    0x0000001e (0xC0000005,0xA00CBE33,0x0000000,0x000000021)

The event log is empty. I ran Dr. Watson but there were no entries in the log.

    The event log is empty

2K writes quite a few things to the system and to the applications event logs. Not only errors and warnings but lots of "hey boss, I just did ....." things as well. Unless you've dumped them, they shouldn't be empty. If they are, you may not have the eventlog service started. It should be and should be set to autostart when you fire up the PC.

As to your specific error - these things are always tough and especially when the error message does not list an exe or dll or some specific file to give a clue. I couldn't match the whole error string with any searches I did but Kmode Exception stops with 0x0000001e (0xC0000005 ..... are pretty much always your PC barking at a hardware subsystem like video, sound, or something.

Since yours is always CD related, get the latest drivers for the one you have, delete it in device manager, reboot to let the system detect it, and point to the new drivers if you were able to find any. Otherwise just let it use the existing ones.

a Stop 0x0000001E is caused by an application that uses a lot of open handles, but never closes them.
Since your system seems to do this with your CDROM it may be caused by an application that uses your CDROM, like a CD Burner program. If you have one of these applications, try uninstalling it to see if that helps.
