    I turned on my laptop and have following message on my screen:
    STOP: c000021a {Fatal System Error}
    The windows subsystem system process terminated unexpectedly with a status of 0x c0000006 (0x7e72edea 0x006adf40).
    The system has been shut down.

    I turned it off and back on, and the same message appeared again.

    Background: something similar (but not exactly the same) happened about 3 weeks ago. Using the restore disks provided by Toshiba I returned my laptop to its "out of the box" status (and then spent several hours restoring it to its "pre-crash" status. Up until this morning it has been working fine).

    Toshiba Satellite, M55-S3291, its about 3 years old.

    Question: Now that this has happened twice in such short order, should I just plan to buy a new laptop this weekend? Any other suggestions?

    :)Hi LB0055. I had this issue happen to a computer at school. The computer had to restart after the instalaltion of a windows update and then it got that same message you said in your post. The computer had to be formatted and windows had to be installed from scratch. Do you have a Windows CD? Can you get into Safe Mode by pressing F8 on startup? If you have a Windows CD can you boot from it and perform a repair install? Let me know. Thanks! :)

    Hi Evan,
    Thank you for your reply. After this happened to me about 3 weeks ago, I used the Toshiba restore disks and restored my computer to its "out of the box" status. So I have already gone down that route. I am just wondering if the fact that this has happened twice in just three weeks this means my computer is SOL.

    If this occurs again hit F8 on boot up to get to the DOS based start menu page and select 'Last Known Good'.

    I found that MS KB too, but noted that XP Home was not listed in the Applies to section. - I guess we're dealing with Home?

    fatal error

    I have done the F8 thing and have rebooted with each of the options. I always get back to the same blue screen and the same sad Fatal Error message. All my spyware, antivirus, firewall, etc etc software were up to date and I scanned regularly (for what that's worth). I have read that there really is not a good way to determine the nature of the problem (hardware, software, etc) except for messing around. Sounds like fun. It has been suggested that I just reformat the hard drive and really start over. Because I have nothing to lose, I think that is what I will do.

    Thanks everybody, LB0055

    I hadn't noticed that it didn't apply to XP Home.
    But then, I hadn't noticed we were talking about XP Home either.
    (Must concentrate more)
