    Hi

I bought a computer from a friend. In trying to fix the computer, I think I made things worse. I used a Win 7 64bit Enterprise on USB so I could get a C: prompt. The PC was booting but was not reaching the desktop. I should mention, he can't remember his password and uses the fingerprint reader instead. Anyway, the usb tried to fix the boot up, and I think may have altered the OS from win 7 Professional to Win 7 Enter. So whatever caused the problem in the first place, I ended up altering the OS by using the wrong OS to restore the pc.

I've tried to repair win 7 with the typical procedures. Nothing. It boots, I get the windows animation, but before it reaches the desktop or login, I get a blue screen with the "Stop: c000021a {Fatal System Error}... 0x00210e38" error. The pc tries to fix the error but can't.

I read on another post someone had a similar problem. It was caused by a virus, "You're infected with ZeroAccess rootkit." I don't know if I have the same problem. The post was not clear how it was resolved to reach the desktop. So I decided to post for help.

    Diskpart shows:
Volume 0 Ltr G Label GSP1RMCPRXF Fs UDF Type DVD-ROM
Volume 1 Ltr C Label SYSTEM Fs NTFS Type Partition size 300 MB
Volume 2 Ltr D Label "empty/blank" Fs NTFS Type Partition size 678 GB
Volume 3 Ltr E HP_Recovery Fs NTFS Type Partition size 14 GB
    Volume 4 Ltr F HP_Tools Fs Fat32 Type Partition size 511 5MB

When I use the windows 7 Pro Disc I get the Language/Tim/keyboard screen. I click next. I click on "Repair your computer ", i choose it. I then get the System Recovery Options screen, and under 'Operating System', I get (Recovered) . Under Partition size, I get 694984 MB. And for location, I get (D:) Local Disk. so I guess the OS is now on the D: partition? I click next and reach the 'System Recovery Options. "

So what do I do now? Sfc /scannow won't work. I did use chkdsk /f and the D: drive had issues, and according to chkdsk, they were fixed. I can't remember the exact errors fixed. But I still can't reach the desktop.

    Please help..

I may be wrong but when I read fingerprint reader I immediately think you are referring an HP product and if it is. What is the Product Number(P/N) located on the machine near the MS Certificate of Authenticity.

D: drive is the recovery partition. When you first start the computer when the black screen with HP logo on it quickly press the esc key. There will be a list choose System Recovery. What are your options when you get to the recovery screen. It should show full recovery and recovery saving files and settings. If it does choose full recovery(factory reset.) That will bring the computer back to when it was first started as if it were brand new. If you do not want to do a factory reset maybe your friend can help you gain access to the OS by swiping his/her finger. I hope this helps.

Hi MrLostsoul. Please follow the instructions in my guide for repairing Windows 7.

Start with the area under the If the Windows Repair All in One tool does not repair your issue with Windows Vista or Windows 7 then follow these steps section of the tutorial and let me know what the status of the computer is after performing the steps in the tutorial.

There is a possibility that you may have inadvertently corrupted the recovery partition and/or the OS by trying to use the Win 7 Enterprise disc. Can your friend come and scan the registered fingerprint. That would be easiest. When you are done retrieving the software since you bought the computer then do a full factory reset in order to register your own fingerprint. What is the software you are trying to save?

Do you have the Product Number (P/N example WA678SB). Located on the machine near the MS Certificate of Authenticity.
