I'm still confused as to the method that I should choose when I do a clean install of Win XP Home Edition. Should I use FAT32 or NTFS.
My MAIN concern is: will my Quicken data files import into Win XP if I use NTFS? I'm of course, now using Win Me with FAT32, and have about 7 years of Quicken Data Files backed up on CDR, CDRW, and ZIP (yea, I'm a little paranoid about loosing the data).
I also have numerous Excel spreadsheets that I cannot loose either.
Part of me says to go with NTFS since it is the 'latest thing' and should work better with Win XP, and the other part of me says to stay with FAT32. Once again, my main concern is that all my documents from Quicken and Excel work with XP.
    My system is:
    PIII 700, 40GHD, 512 RAM

    I appreciate all responses.
    Bruce

My suggestion is go with NTFS. If you have your data burned to a CD, it doesn't save in FAT32 format. Cd's have their own format called CDFS. You can still access any/all your CD's with an NTFS partition.

Your main reason for going with NTFS is security ... especially from the net. Or you may have nosy family members that you can lock them out of ;)

    Ref: confused

Just go ahead and get it converted to NTFS, you will like it and all your software under FAT 32 will work trust me, I had the same doubts about running my software which were all doing just fine in FAT 32, I just changed to NTFS. Everything works better, more efficiently. I think you must assume a bit of risk here, anyone who does not wish to risk plainly lacks courage, take courage man and do it.
