During that last month my computer is locking up at the startup screen. While im at the black screen with the green bar that goes across, it will just freeze up. I can hit reset and it will either boot up normally or the same thing happens. The lockup comes the same time the as the lights on the keyboard turn on and off (when it works properly).

I am using win xp home, with norton system works. I have reformatted it once thinking it would correct the problem. Im not sure but it appears to be getting worse. To turn it on this time I had to reset it 6 times. If I try to go into safe mode it still locks up.

    Any help would be appreciated.

This sounds very much like a hardware problem - HD seems a favourite candidate as you have already reformatted to no effect, but it may be flakey memory.

See this post which may have some points of relevance

Next time you have it booted to Safe mode try to run chkdsk :

Start > Run > type in chkdsk /r and see what it says - snag is chkdsk will run at the next boot, before Windows loads - and in your case it might not boot.

You could look in Event Viewer for any errors, but I guess nothing helpful will be listed as Windows failed to boot, but worth a shot

Right click My Computer > Manage > Event Viewer > System and Application. Paste anything of relevance here - double click the Error message and in the box which comes uo click on the button below the UP/Down arrows to paste to Clipboard.
