Anyone have a link to what is needed and what is not needed in startup in Vista? After adding a few programs such as Apple Quicktime and Real this new computer is real slow to startup. Have scanned for spyware using Windows Defender and Spybot and have done full virus scan.

    Hi Marvin.

Many of the same things in Vista apply to other MS OSes, so a good source for figuring out what is and what is not required is AnswersThatWork
Just go to the appropriate letter for each process, and search for it, they will give good detailed info regarding it, we use it quite often.

An excellent start up manager is WinPatrol 2007 v12

The 'PLUS' features include a 'delayed start up' option to have some of the more minor things start up after Windows does, which in many cases increases boot time a bit. You can use the 'Info' button(avail in free version too) to get info off a database which is updated regularly from WinPatrol.
