My laptop running w2k has started hanging during startup. It loads all the drivers, but then it freezes while starting up. Occasionally, I can get it unstuck by doing the computer version of a good swift kick (unplugging the laptop, taking out/inserting removable drives, etc.).

Though I'm not sure it's related, about the same time, all my dialup connections stopped working. It will get past the verifying username and password stage, then pop up error 720: Can't agree on a PPP protocol.

When it boots, I can still get internet access through a LAN connection and all my file and print sharing still work. I assume there's a corrupted file or registry entry in there somewhere, but I have no idea how to find it. Is there anyway I can just completely uninstall and reinstall windows networking?

I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling every protocal and service in the networking windows. Since it doesn't ask for the 2000 CD, I'm afraid I might be uninstalling then reinstalling the same, bad file over and over again.

As for my starting up problems, I've turned on /SOS mode in the boot.ini file, and it seems to be getting stuck between loading the drivers and checking the file system. Since this is before any of the networking components are called, my two problems are probably not related to each other.

    Hi Webb
Try posting your question here. There are two brilliant networking people that I can think of (Sarrkaztic and DrMDJ) that I bet would solve this for you in no time. But do hurry back. We like having you here. :D
