    Hi,
When my firewall is activated, the Vista startup time is about 6 minutes, against less than one minute when it is desactivated.
Can somebody explain the problem and perhaps help solving it?
    Thanks
    J-F.

Wow! my system start-up usually takes 5 to 15 min at best (I have not timed it per say), sometimes up to 2 hours or so (god knows what it's doing) especially when installing updates...

the new AVG Internet Suite 9.0 (trial) as a firewall that replaces windows, you may want to try that and see what happens...

Hi, I'm not familiar with Vista, but what Anti-Virus program do you run? As most AV's will disable Windows Firewall you may have an incompatibility in what system you're running. It might pay to list what AV and Spy/Malware you are running in your PC. Neil.

Some firewall programs will automatically disable the Windows Firewall but others won't. Will A-V and spyware programs do that, too?

Thanks for your swift answers. I have Avira antivir and Windows Defender installed, but they don't seem to interfer: there was not problem with this configuration during one year now and the problem is when loading the firewall "Basic filtering service" (i tested with msconfig). I noted a very long list of programs in the firewall program exceptions (mainly windows services) but they are all bloqued and inactivated. Could you check if your program exception list is that long? Thank again.
