    Hi,:p

(1)Regretfully, I was unable to re-install the Windows Media Player 11. Because, at the start of installation I get a window stating that : "Starting Installshield Wizard ", which hangs in there. Normally, the Installshield hangs on the start for 30 second and then releases itself. (2) I then rolled back to Media Player 10 and tried to install Windows Media Player 11 to no avail. (3) I also tried to to re-install the Windows Player 10 on the existing Media Player 10, again, the installshield hanged on the start, like before. But, nonetheless, the current Media player 10 works fine.

Yesterday , I have installed the Windows Installer Distributable 4.5, but it had no effect either. All the windows updates work just fine automatically. But when it comes to Media Player 11 upgrade, the Installshield hangs.

My system is clean for virus and spams. I use Windows XP Professional SP3 with 3 GB of live memory.

I shall be grateful if someone, with knowledge of this problem, could help me out.

Try using the Windows Installer Cleanup Utility.

Look at programs that might be installed that could be hindering the installation, similar programs or those involving media hardware (audio or graphics playback).

You might need to update your drivers for the basic hardware. Look on the system manufacturer's website. Get the chipset drivers, then those for the graphics, then audio.

    Hi, Matt

I have controlled them all. They are all OK and the drivers are the latest. I have also the AVS Media Player and KM Player, which I re-installed them all. But problem still exists.

I may also add that, when I use update the Microsoft Active X 9.0.0C set up to update, again, the Starting Installshield Wizard comes on and sticks for a while and the releases itself. But I can install the Microsoft Direct X end-user Run Time, without any difficulty. The Installshield doesn't come on. Also a few days ago, I have updated my NVIDIA graphic card software, the installshield came on installed the new driver and the software without any problem. I hope these will shed some light to discover this mystery on my system.

With the extra players (AVS Media Player and KM Player), uninstall them while you try to upgrade WMP. If WMP is installed successfully, then you can try reinstalling those other players (check if they have updated versions first though).

I forgot about upgrading Windows Installer
    Windows Installer 4.5 is available

Let us know how those go.

I don't think DirectX should have an influence, but if you have installed version 9.0c, that is good.

    High Matt,

I did all what you suggested, but had no effect.

The Installer 4.5 works just fine.

Sorry, you already have version 4.5 of the installer.

Have you installed any plugs-ins (add-ons)? Remove them.

Disable antimalware programs. Read the section What Can Prevent My Installation from Running, here:
    http://consumer.installshield.com/faq.asp

You might not have full administrator rights
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/936620/en-us

After that, you might need to consider say, looking at the Service Pack (I expect you have installed SP3). You should update drivers and software before installing the next Service Pack. I might going back to SP2 and try the installation there, then going back to SP3 when everything seems to be working and updated properly.

    Hi Matt,

I said in my first message that I have installed the Installer 4.5, but it had no effect either. Which plug-ins or (add-ons) Matt? Please give me a few examples, so I could search.
