    Hi!

When booting up a Windows XP or 2000 System the WLAN Adapter was not started before a user logs in successfully.
I have test a CISCO Aironet PCI WLAN Card in an Windows 2000 system and an XP Professional Notebook with an Compaq WLAN W200 Adapter - both behave in the same way.

Normal Ethernet Interfaces are automatically started and useable before the GINA login. I have heard that this behavior is by design.

Does anyone know how to activate WLAN Interfaces before login?

    Thanks for any Help!
    Andreas

Wireless NICs store some data (WEP keys for instance) in the registry and I think they are specific to the user's profile.

If that's the case, it would mean the card could not be active before finding out who is using the PC and loading the proper info.

What problem are you trying to solve?

    1. To remotely manage the PCs and
    2. that for example Anti virus SW can download new definitions

even if the PC was just powered on.

Is it possible to put the WAP Key infos etc. to the user which is active before login "“ the "default user" or however this user is called?

    Thanks for your replay!

Interesting ideas. I don't know the answers but I think I can find out. May take a day or two or three though.
