I tried to amend my user account to log on as administrator.Since then I am having dreadful trouble trying to log in.What happens is i get as far as 'Windows is starting up. it then will not go pass that so i have to reboot at least four times and then get a pop up saying

"System could not log you on make sure user name & domain are correct then type password in again "

(in the background is the administrator form duly fill in) so I click on the notice and then it disappears and lets me in to the Welcome screen.

I realise I have done something wrong when trying to amend the administrator account but have no idea how to put this right. Can any one help please?:(

my first thought was you joined a domain, but probably not. You might want to login in safe mode and fix the admin account from there. (Go into control panel=>user accounts

Hi Snowdrop, Have you tried starting in Safe Mode?
Start comp > press F8 > select Last known good configuration > Enter. Neil.

Thank you Neil after lots of trial and error have eventually resolved problem. The only way I could log in for ages was to press F8 as you advised. Then for another reason I had to delete Google Chrome and then re download it and also did a system restore and this then got rid of the logging in problem as well. So problem is now solved,Thank you once again very much for your help.

Glad to see you're all sorted. Maybe that is why I stick with Mozilla. I find Google Search is all I need. Happy Easter. Neil.
