Hopefully someone out there can help me with this annoyance. I haven't noticed any deminished system performance, but am concerned that I might in the future. SOOOO, here it is:

DougMerrill - Welcome to the Board :)

Actualy the Test Posts forum is for testing purposes - signatures, etc - see the description on the forum list ....
I have moved your thread to the Removing Spyware & Viruses forum, although I think from your thread title that the problem probably lies elsewhere.

More detail of the error message would be helpful.

    One down, one to go.

Oops, I'm a dork... Read the screen geek is what I tell people.

The complete box that comes up during start-up is listed below. I think that I've found a thread that remedies the 0x7c918fea error. But this one still plagues me...

The Instruction at "0xf1211c49" referenced memory at "0x00000010 ".The memory could not be "written ". Click on OK to terminate the program.

Anything showing in Event Viewer when the computer boots up? - it would help to know the faulting module.

Guess this isn't much help... but it's the only error that shows the same address as the pop-up error.

In the Application line: Faulting application svchost.exe, version 5.1.2600.2180, faulting module unknown, version 0.0.0.0, fault address 0xf1211c49.

Could possibly be malware, but could also be of no consequence.

It is possible to see what is running in svchost by going (in Pro at least) ....

    1. Click Start on the Windows taskbar, and then click Run.
    2. In the Open box, type CMD, and then press ENTER.
    3. Type Tasklist /SVC, and then press ENTER.

A description of Svchost.exe in Windows XP Professional Edition

How helpful that would be is anyone's guess - as the module is faulting it is doubtful that the errant service would be shown.

Is there something specific that I'm looking for with this? I see the multiple "svchost.exe" files running and some look odd (like '6to4' and 'Nla') as the Microsoft site states, but I'm not sure what right looks like.

Unfortunately it could be any one of the processes running within svchost and indeed it may not be running if it has faulted. An impossible task to identify I would say and I am far from expert in these matters.

I appreciate your time and effort... all is not lost. You got 1/2 of my stuff fixed and I learned some things I didn't previously know. Thank You.
