When I start VISTA Home Prem on my Toshiba laptop and click on the start button the contents of the start menu are highlighted in a quickly scrolling fashion and the links cannot be accessed. The icons on the desktop will not open any programs either.

The computer must be restarted and even then it may work properly but other times I get the same problem

    Any thoughts appreciated.

It's a Lenovo and I think I see something similar to where I work.

I read the information you posted, then wondered (without knowing) if it was an IBM/Lenovo system. I looked at your "My System" in your user profile, ah-ha, Lenovo.

Try tapping both the Shift, Ctrl and Alt keys on either side of the keyboard when the problem happens.

I wonder if it is connected to Sticky Keys, which can be activated by tapping the Shift key 5 times.

It is happening on Lenovo systems I have come across (actually, heard about, I have never dealt with it myself) seems to tell me it is a Lenovo problem.

Actually it is a Toshiba that I inherited when I sold someone an IBM machine. I set it up for my wife's e-mail. My profile is strictly IBM...

I shall give that a try thought because you might have a point there.

Thanks, I shall let you know

Well yes and no. I tried the tapping solution but on restart it returned so I then turned off all sticky key options and it seems to have cleared the problem.

Several restarts later the issue has not returned.

    Thanks Matt
