Can anyone tell me how to get a shortcut on to the start menu default folder section (upper right hand corner where the My Documents is located)? The My Pictures link is gone and I have put a short cut to my pictures in the upper left hand corner. I would like to get it moved over to the right side as my pictures. Thanks.

Right-click the Start Button > Properties > Customize Button > Advanced Tab > scroll down and you'll see it.

I wish it was that easy. It is marked as "show as a link" but it is not there.

    Perhaps a Registry corruption problem.

If you're comfortable checking the Registry, go to:

    HKEY_USERS\S-1-5-21-2857422465-927890586-840360825-1003\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Advanced

and open the Dword named Start_ShowMyPics listed on the right pane. Verify that the value data is 1. Change it to 1 if it's anything else.

If that key isn't there, create it.

On my systems, It has always pointed to:

    C:\Documents and Settings\<your user id>\My Documents\My Pictures

Glad you got it back. Please share how you did it so others may be helped from your experience.

I was trying to do some cleaning. I had about 4 my pictures folders. One I had moved to my D: partition. The others didn't go anywhere. So of course I wanted to get rid of them. The one on the start menu was one of those. I restored all of them from the recycle bin so I have it back. But it is empty. If I could just figure out how to get it to take me to my pictures on D: I would be all set. Can you help with that?

That's usually pretty simple and straight forward. What you need to do to move the System Assigned "My Pictures" folder is migrate to the location where the System placed it ( C:\Documents and Settings\<your user id>\My Documents\My Pictures) and right click on it. Choose CUT and then migrate to where you want to relocate it. Right click the new location and choose PASTE. Don't worry about the System Assigned shortcut, it'll take care of itself since the System tracks the moves on this and other Special folders and changes the Target accordingly.

If you have pictures scattered around in various other locations of your creation, you can CUT/PASTE them into this new "My Pictures" location and then delete the old empty folders if you so choose. It sounds like that would make life simpler for you. Good luck.
