    Hi.

I got a problem here. Sometimes when my family members use the computer, they tend to minimise the windows and close it. The next time i use, the windows are minimise, and i must maximise them again. Is there any way in which no matter it is closed minimised or maximised, all windows, when opened, will be maximised.

    Thank you

GreatGuy--The best solution to your problem is to create different user profiles for each person. If someone else in your family wants to minimize windows, then that is something for them to fix each time they log on. Your settings will not be affected.
Windows' windows tend to open in the mode they were closed.
But if everyone wants to use the same user profile, tell us more. Are these minimized windows in Internet Explorer or in Windows?
If Internet Explorer, are these the windows you see when you "Open in New Window ", the first window you see or?
If you right click the IE shortcut icon|Properties|you will see the opportunity to change the size of the IE window in the Run line (at the bottom).
And then there is IE Maximizer.

But as mentioned above we do not know what window, in what circumstances, you are talking about.

thanks for your help. My IE is always minimised when i "open in new window', even if i closed it maximised. Only the first window will appear to be maximised, as how i always closed it. As for windows, it is always maximised unless someone close it minimised. I thought there were some settings that can be changed so that even if it is closed minimised, when it is opened, it is still maximised.

    GreatGuy--
First of all, there is a difference in using the _, "double square" and "square" buttons at the very top right of an IE window versus dragging the sides or corners of an IE window to a new shape/size.
If you open IE, then "Open a New Window ", change the New Window's size/shape by dragging, close the original IE window and then close the New window, the next time you "Open a New Window ", it should open in the size/shape you just set. (This has no effect on the original window. )
As mentioned, the _, "double square" and "square" buttons will also affect the size of the window. Usually the next time you open IE it may open in the size it had when you close it. That is especially true of the Double Square (Restore) and Square (Maximize) buttons. However, the _ (Minimize) button reduces the window to a button on the Toolbar (very bottom of your screen), so I suspect this is not what you are talking about.

If you drag the window to the size you want it, and press the Control key while you "X" out of there, Windows usually "remembers" the setting. But having different user accounts on your system might be easier for you, in the long run.

If you insist on using IE, rather than an alternative such as Netscape, Mozilla, Firefox, or even Opera, you might be happier with an IE based alternative like SlimBrowser, which eliminates many of IE's annoying "features ", including the non-maximized (MS "normal ") window problem.

    Jim,
I have to stick up for IE6 here. I have used all the browsers, some are better than others, but IE is still setting the standard. It behaves well, and is so integrated with XP that it is truly efficient. My IE windows behave exactly as I want them to, and I thought WelshJim did a good job explaining how the windows work- (Pat on the back-WJ- another c&p to save me a bunch of typing later on :) )

which is the best solution to this problem. Go to Control Panel, User Accounts and follow the prompts. You can even put your own pictures next to your names so that you don't have to use the goofy ones that MS provides (I am not a frog! or a rubber duck!) Everybody on the comp can do their own thing and not interfere with another user's preferences. Additionally, fast user switching makes it convenient to log on and off between accounts, on the fly. HTH, GreatGuy
