What is the purpose of the "Starred" option in the Column Display?

Starred where? Which program? I think that we mean Thunderbird. The "starred" option I did not have until you brought up the question. But, I found some link . Apparently, it is a feature used in Gmail, and it is liked by some people.
You can eliminate the "starred" option by clicking on the top far right of the columns, and uncheck the starred line.

Thanks. Sorry, I stupidly assumed everyone would know that it was in TB.

I had already gone through each folder and eliminated the option. But after doing that I was just curious what the real purpose of it was for.

I tried the Mozilla site first for the answer but had no luck. Searched the board here with no luck either. Thus the reason for the question.

I will check out the link you suggested.

The link explains why that person likes the feature. I, never, had Gmail, so I had no clue about the starred feature.
