All of a sudden we no longer have the "standby" mode option on our Compaq laptop with Windows XP home edition.
We used to be able to push the "power" button breifly for "standby" mode. Not now. Nothing happens.
When I go to the "turn off computer" option, there used to be all three choices, standby, restart, or shut down. Now the "standby" option is dark & the other two are still an option.
    Suggestions please.
    Thank you !!

Have you added any software recently? InCd ??

Take a look in Event viewer and see if there are any error messages showing up.

Control Panel > Administrative Tools > Event Viewer > Look in both Applications and System.

Post any error messages which seem relevant here.

Searching the board I came across this reference in the XP forum, although it refers to 98/Me. Worth reading through and a few checks on your m/c.
