running windows xp home inc service p1a
and just bought a multi media keyboard installed and all seems to be working well except when I use the sleep button the pc goes into standby and a move of the mouse appears to make the system come back to life but only have background desktop no icons are visable mouse is visable but no keyboard instructions
except the only way out is to reboot and then get a message saying system has recovered from a serious error and all else seems ok has anyone else had this is there a hot fix for this ?

    Perhaps something here:
    http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/xp_standby.htm

I would look at your new keyboard and check for a hibernation/sleep problem, updated drivers/patch.

Power management can be and has been a real bugger. I would turn these features off until I figured out what the problem is. Data loss and corrupted files are a real danger while this is going on. Cached read/write tasks (those that windows does during idle time or at shutdown/restarts) are also suspended and not written to disk. Foul ups on wakeups causes the lose of this data.

    Hi rodger,

Well, that would have taken a crystal ball and some tarrot cards. I'm glad you took the time to share it. This would definitely fall into the category of "uncommon and rare reason ".

I know somewhere down the line it will help another who finds themselves trying to figure out why they are having the same sleep /wake problem.

Again, thank you for the update. :D
