We are running Windows 7 workstations in a Server 2008 R2 domain environment. I'd like to standardize the icons on the desktop for every user that logs in..

I have enabled hidden files and folders and added the icons to the C:\Users\Public\Public Desktop directory on the workstations.

When I log on the machine with various domain accounts, on some desktops the icons appear and on others, the desktop is blank.

From my understanding, adding shortcuts to the Public Desktop folder should display the shortcuts on the desktop for all users that log on, but it doesn't seem to be working. Does anyone have a good way to implement this weather it be on the local machine or with group policy?

    Any input would be appreciated.

    Thanks,
    Kenny

    Hi Arie-

Thanks for the reply.. I probably should have mentioned this.. We already have roaming profiles implemented in this environment. These workstations are totally locked down via group policy, similar to many schools.. Start menu is empty, unable to access the control panel, ect..

What we'd like to do is have a standard set of shortcuts that show up on everyones profile when they log on (shortcuts to various internal intranet sites, shortcuts for Microsoft Office programs, ect)

Any ideas on a way that we could accomplish this?
