Yesterday afternoon, MS pushed an update out to my PC. (I suspect it was the Anniversary Update) I let my PC do its thing & when I returned, all I had was the black screen with the white dots perpetually circling. It has now been doing thar for 14 hours.

    Any suggestions?

    Steve,
It worked on the 2nd try. I learned:
    1. The update was KB3192441
    2. The error was 0x8024a10a
It appears there's been a bit of a problem with KB3194798 (Build 14393.321), KB3192441 (build 10586.633) and KB3192440 (Build 10240.17146) installs getting stuck.

It looks like I've gotten a fresh copy so we'll see. This page suggests turning off your AV. A fine idea except MS pushes updates out on its own schedule & runs them without warning.

I'll post the results of the installation.

Hi Howard, I have just received and installed 5 updates from MS and HP on this HP 1000 Notebook running W10 Home 64bit. I was reading your thread and decided to check to see if I had the updates you mentioned. The message said updates were being downloaded. In all, 25 minutes to download and install and followed immediately by a sixth one of Defender. The Notebook restarted twice and rechecked download status to finalize.
Updates KB3193713 (Silverlight) 3194798 (Cumulative) 3194343 (Adobe) 890830 (Windows MSRT) and HP Printer update. All installed 100% trouble free.
I have my receive downloads set to PC's on my Local Network. (Start > Settings > Update and Security > Advanced options > Choose how updates are delivered > PC's on my Local Network.) This has always been trouble free for me and this Notebook is on battery only, Wireless to Router and situated 30 feet away from the Router! Windows Version 1607 and OS Build 14393.321.

    R.L.,

I had 5 or 6 stacked up @ Noon today, including the Malicious Software Removal Tool. Only 2 remain:
    1. Cumulative Update for Windows 10 Version 1511 for x64-based Systems (KB3192441)
    2. Feature update to Windows 10, version 1607
    Both require restarts.

Burned a re-installation DVD just in case.

The same thing happened again. It took only attempt to kick it loose. I'm now on 1607. Of course, there are now other updates in the queue. I'll report in again after this next install.

Are you using a 3rd party AV?

Yes. It was, however, disabled during the installation. Since I had both KB3192441 & 1607 going in the same installation, the stall out may have been caused by the two updates going through together.

All I know is Win 10 is working and that makes me happy.

I've been pretty happy w/ Windows Defender but there have been occasions when it wouldn't behave. That's why I brought the 3rd Party AV on board.
