I plan on getting an ADATA SP550 SSD and install XP 64 bit. This will be main drive for an old XPS720 Dell computer . Some of my older games won't transfer to W7, so will be put on new SSD. My question is if anyone else has tried a SSD with XP and especially with 64 bit. SSD is 480G model and is SATA 3. I am thinking maybe that will be a problem? Any help or suggestions are appreciated.

Do you have the Service Tag. Should be located by the MS Certificate of Authenticity.

Hi rc17. Since Windows XP doesn't support the TRIM feature that is native in Windows 7 and above you will need to download the SSD Toolbox for your model of SSD and run the optimization module of that program on a periodic basis in order to ensure that the drive doesn't degrade in performance over time. Ideally, you should not install Windows XP on an SSD at all but if that is what you want to do then just know that its not recommended.

Also make sure you install all the drivers and Windows Updates for your various hardware devices. You can find the drivers for your computer using this link, Dell XPS 720 Drivers.

Thanks everyone:) Looks like i can use SSD but as mentioned i will need keep it updated. Will get 4 sticks of 2G each and install too. Using a GTX 560 Ti for video card right now. It is fine for the games and programs i run. Machine should be quicker once i get it together and running. Will see if i have problems or it goes smooth and let you know either way.

An SSD for Windows XP is like putting lipstick on a pig.

Also, Winxp 64 is also a pig at best. Forget XP and move to Windows 10.
