I had a program installed on my laptop that was using the Microsoft 2008 SQL R2.

I had to uninstall this program to reload a newer version

However in the process something has gone wrong

I can't load the new program as it doesn't overwrite the existing SQL 2008

i have tried removing manualy in add/remove programs and am left with 'sql 2008 R2' which wont uninstall as it says a file is missing

I have tried creating a new instance but again it just doesn't work

Does anyone know how i can get this back to how it was or how to succesfully remove this last program

Also i didn't have the restore to a previous time option enabled on this laptop so couldn't even try that

    Thanks

It doesn't uninstall as it says there is a file missing

'warning 26003. Microsoft SQL Server 2008 R2 Setup Support files cannot be uninstalled because the following products are installed
SQL Server 2008 R2 ommon files
SQL Server 2008 R2 Database Engine Shared
Microsoft SQL Server 2008 R2 RsFx Driver
SQL Server 2008 R2 Database Engine Services'

None of these are listed in add/remove programs?

It then continues to look for a file on my D:\ drive 'sqlsupport_msi'

Any other suggestions would be appreciated

Although I haven't tried this, you could try using Revo uninstaller. Use advanced mode to remove all traces of the installation. You should then be able to reinstall.
