Using a new eMachine with Windows XP Service Pack 2 (SP2) and latest, up to date Norton's with firewalls and all the bells running and latest Spybot 14 or 14b2. It goes away fast and I am not sure it even checks system. Also, in Tools, when attempting to see system startup or internals it slows down to a crawl and never posts the stuff in the window. I ran that Cool-what-ever removal and looked about, but could not see anything unusual in the software that may cause this weird reaction of Spybot. Probably my less than expert knowledge of XP, huh?

I see nothing unusual on Ad-aware or Hijackthis.

    Any suggestions?

I've come across a similar issue before, spybot completes its sacn in a few seconds w/ nothing detected. Closing spybot and running again it worked as usual. I believe that when it scanned fast that the detection rules were not loading properly or not loading at all.

Try uninstalling spybot and reinstalling, then updating. The immunize, then close spybot. Restart & scan and see is it works as it should.

Keep in mind that it is beta software and has bugs.

A 'FWIW' Tip: You can create a "SpybotSD (Automated)" shortcut on your Desktop that, when double-clicked, will automatically:
    1. Load Spybot - Search & Destroy
    2. Check for, download and install any available updates
    3. Run the Immunizer
    4. Scan your computer for spyware
    5. Fix any found problems
    6. Exit
The "Target:" command line for this shortcut is:
    Code:
     "C:\Program Files\Spybot - Search & Destroy\spybotsd.exe" /autoupdate /autoimmunize /autocheck /autofix /autoclose
    SpybotSD (Automated) icon
