    Speeding Up Internet Explorer 8
    http://windowsfixup.com/2009/03/speeding-up-internet-explorer-8/

Several users have reported significantly slower performance under Internet Explorer 8, particularly when the browser is first launched or when navigating to new pages. Delays of up to 30 seconds or more have been reported.

Rather than use the INF file suggested at that site, I'd suggest using the actual antispy programs that add sites to the restricted zone. Spyware Blaster and Spybot add sites to the restricted zone and when using an INF to remove them, the programs *could* end up putting the sites back.

AFAIK, the 2 antispy apps I mentioned will not repopulate the restricted zone automatically, but some antispy and antivirus apps may. Thus, to get the "cleaned out" restricted zone to stick it may be better to empty the zone using the apps that populated it to begin with.

For example, use the INF, and an Internet security app may throw out those annoying security warnings like "you are not fully protected, click here to remedy ". And the user could end up unknowingly repopulating the restricted sites zone all over again.

Ah, so that's why my IE8 is fast :)

I never used (or will ever use) these "Anti Spyware" apps.

    IE 8 Faster

Using TonyT's suggestions I turned off Spybot S&D's Immunize feature and SpywareBlasters Restricted Zones and IE 8 loads immediately instead of a 20 sec. delay.:D I still have MVP's Hosts file installed and it does'nt seem to affect IE 8 but then I don't know if IE 8 even uses it.

Question: Which security features in IE 8 should be turned on to protect against malware etc. that Spybot and Spywareblaster covered? At present I have the SmartScreen Filter turned on. What about things like InPrivate Filtering etc.?

I only have dial-up access so don't want to turn something on that constantly calls home:eek:

    Any advice appreciated.
