RAM speed used to be rated in nS (80 often used for 386 systems, 70 for 486, 60 for Pentium) -- and then L2 cache on the motherboard would be maybe 12nS.

But now RAM is PC66/1??/??00 and L2 has joined L1 in the CPU. How fast are these memories if expressed in nS?

See you haven't an answer yet, so i'll make a stab. First point is 'I don't know' and second point is nobody I know reports those figures. For example, this or this article is a good recent evaluation of what's available and how to choose it.

Here's my stab...memory speed is now measured in megahertz not nanoseconds.

Ah, I must be right. I think the RAM timings are measured in ns...a la...6-3-3-2.5 with 2.5 (the end number) representing CAS latency.

Well, hey, I think that's a good enough answer for cocktail parties!
